The documentary 'Missile from the East' (2021) tells the extraordinary story of the German motorcycle racer Ernst Degner, who in 1961 escaped East Germany, crossing the Iron Curtain with his family. Degner was one of the leading riders of his era and, after his defection, signed for Suzuki and won the world championship, turning the Japanese brand into a giant of motorcycle racing.

Directed by Justin Stokes, the film combines documentary, biography and sport, exploring not only Degner's life but also the political context of the Cold War and its impact on sport and personal choices. The cast includes James G. Nunn as Ernst Degner, Aliona Baranova as Gerda Degner, plus interviews with key figures from the world of motorcycle racing.

Producers include Justin Stokes, Nick Taussig and Mike Wells, with cinematography on the reconstructions handled by Malte Rosenfeld.
